Crystal Brush 2013 Competition Rules
Attention – What’s different from 2012
1. By popular request, we’ve added a sculpting category. See below for full rules.
2. Basing that includes decorative plinths, rules clarification. Plinths will not be considered within height restrictions, but will not be photographed, or otherwise considered by the judges.
3. What to expect:-
- Fill in a form at the check in counter.
- You will be given a reclaim ticket stub, and a sticker will be stuck on the bottom of your model identifying your ownership.
- Your models will then be placed in the display cases with a small card identifying your model only by number.
- You will be given a time and date to collect your models after voting is complete. Your reclaim ticket stub is required to prove ownership.
- Short listed winners will be notified at reclamation to be present at the awards ceremony; if short listed you must be present to be eligible to win.
1) Categories
a) 28mm to 32mm scale Science Fiction
i) Single “human” sized figure, on a base no larger than 50mm wide / tall
ii) Vehicle or large monster, on a base no larger than twice the horizontal dimensions of the model.
iii) Squad of “human” sized models, minimum of 3 models, maximum of 10 models, mounted separately on bases no larger than 50mm wide / tall or on a single display base no larger than the combined total of all base allowances in terms of width, but restricted to 50mm tall (i.e. 10 models would be allowed on a 50mm x 500mm base).
b) 28mm to 32mm scale Fantasy or Steampunk
i) Single “human” sized figure, on a base no larger than 50mm wide / tall
ii) Vehicle or large monster, on a base no larger than twice the horizontal dimensions of the model.
iii) Squad of “human” sized models, minimum of 3 models, maximum of 10 models, mounted separately on bases no larger than 50mm wide / tall or on a single display base no larger than the combined total of all base allowances in terms of width, but restricted to 50mm tall (i.e. 10 models would be allowed on a 50mm x 500mm base).
c) 28mm to 32mm or 1/35 scale Historical
i) Single “human” sized figure, on a base no larger than 50mm wide / tall.
ii) Vehicle or large monster, on a base no larger than twice the horizontal dimensions of the model.
iii) Squad of “human” sized models, minimum of 3 models, maximum of 10 models, mounted separately on bases no larger than 50mm wide / tall or on a single display base no larger than the combined total of all base allowances in terms of width, but restricted to 50mm tall (i.e. 10 models would be allowed on a 50mm x 500mm base).
d) 54mm and above scale
i) Single model or bust, total size no larger than 150mm x 150mm x 150mm.
e) Diorama
i) At least two models mounted on a base, with overall dimensions no larger than 300mm x 300mm x 300mm.
f) Sculpting *New for 2012
i) Original unpainted sculpt of a single model (not cast) of any model under 120mm in scale, total size no larger than 150mm x 150mm x150mm.
ii) Sculpt must not be previously mass produced or copies made available. It must be the sole work of the entrant. Conversions of existing models are not accepted.
g) New talent
i) 28mm to 32mm single “human” sized figure on a base no wider than 50mm wide / tall.
ii) Entrant must be 14 years or younger, i.e. have been born no later than April 21st 1999 UTC -12.
iii) This category is only eligible for trophies and not cash awards.
2) Entries and Competitors
a) All entries must be entered in person by the person responsible for all the painting on the model (or the sculptor for the sculpting category) on April 20th.
b) An AdeptiCon Weekend Badge is required to submit models into the contest: http://cart.adepticon.org
c) Entries must not have been entered into any competition previously. There is a limit of 2 entries per entrant, per category; however, take note rule 4a and 4b regarding awards.
d) Entrants are responsible for the transportation of entries to and from the competition. No storage space for transportation materials will be provided. Entrants must pick up entries on April 21st at the designated times provided at the event.
e) No team entries allowed, and sculptors of original sculpts and conversions of manufactured models who did not paint the models entered will not be listed as entrants (i.e. no co-credit). For the sculpting category specifically, only one sculptor will be credited for the sculpt.
f) Entrants must remain available for judging, queries and prize awards during the competition.
g) Entrants agree to provide all entries, at their own risk, to CoolMiniOrNot and AdeptiCon for the duration of the competition for the purpose of display, photography and judging. CoolMiniOrNot and AdeptiCon accept no responsibility for damage to or loss of entries during the competition.
h) Entrants agree to have their entries photographed, videoed or otherwise recorded by CoolMiniOrNot and/or AdeptiCon, and such recordings shall be the property of CoolMiniOrNot and/or AdeptiCon and shall be used in whatever manner CoolMiniOrNot and/or AdeptiCon sees fit without further reference or payment to the entrant.
3) Judging
a) Judging will be by panel selected by CoolMiniOrNot and Adepticon, which shall account for 50% of the score. 50% of the score shall be determined by popular vote on CoolMiniOrNot.com between April 20th and April 21st.
b) In the unlikely event of a tie, Judges shall have the power to break the tie.
c) In the event of suspected vote fraud, CoolMiniOrNot shall have the power to disqualify votes or entries.
d) All decisions are final.
4) Prizes
a) Each category shall have a Gold, Silver and Bronze Crystal Brush trophy provided. Each entrant is only eligible for one trophy per category, i.e. it is not possible to win gold, silver and bronze (or any combination of two) in a single category, the next runner ups will be awarded instead.
b) The top 3 scoring entries overall across all categories shall receive cash prizes of $10,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively, guaranteed by CoolMiniOrNot, as well as special versions of the Crystal Brush trophy. Each entrant is only eligible for one top 3 position, i.e. it is not possible to win any combination of the first, second and third prizes, the next runner-ups will be awarded instead.
c) For several of the secondary categories created by the Emerald and Diamond-level sponsors, additional prize support will be arranged for by the individual sponsors.
d) In the event of any dispute, the sum total liability of CoolMiniOrNot to any entrant shall be whatever the entrant paid to CoolMiniOrNot directly related to the Crystal Brush 2013 competition, i.e. $0. All rules subject to change without notice.
